What is Modern Pilates?

Modern Pilates makes the benefits of pilates more accessible to the average person by modifying the original Joseph Pilates exercises which were originally designed with dancers and gymnasts in mind. Modern Pilates also makes pilates more functional for today's lifestyle.

Pilates is a method of exercise that will condition and tone the body. Its methods are very different from many traditional types of exercise. The aim is to work muscles from the inside out, creating a stronger flatter mid section, improved posture, muscle balance, realigning the spine and improving both the function and appearance of the body.

Pilates is for both the body & mind. Pilates is also aimed at relieving stress and can help improve sleep patterns and tension, specifically in the neck and shoulders.

Who is Modern Pilates For?

Everybody! Modern Pilates is recommended by for those recovering from back problems, weak abdominals (core stability), stress incontinence and poor posture. Modern Pilates is suitable for all ages. I have trained to teach specialist classes for the older adult which may have hip, knee replacements, osteoporosis and arthritis.

Modern Pilates is also an ideal additional type of exercise for runners, advanced fitness enthusiasts and dancers who will benefit from increased flexibility and core stability.

In today's lifestyle we spend much of our time flexed over laptops, mobiles, driving and sat at desks all day. Modern Pilates allows us to take our spines and bodies into extension which is great for posture, breathing and tension and strengthen those postural muscles which become weakened.
